Purchasing & Estimating Manager

Reporting to the VP Production, you will be accountable for leading a customer focused, high performance Estimating team. Responsibilities include: training and coaching estimating staff; developing and auditing all computerized estimates including models, floor plans, options and elevations; ensuring accuracy of all estimating data; authorizing accurate building material purchase orders; approving invoices generated from purchase orders; conducting budget reconciliations; researching and implementing methods to maintain capital cost efficiencies; soliciting and reviewing tenders for sub-trades and suppliers; negotiating contracts; and managing the quality and service level provided by sub-trades and suppliers.

You will bring to this role a post-secondary education in estimating (or recognized construction program), eight or more years of experience in residential construction estimating and two or more years of management experience. You will have solid construction expertise including knowledge of building technology, codes, processes and materials. You are proficient in reading and interpreting plans and specifications and have a solid understanding of wood frame construction and prime contractor relationships. You are an effective communicator and demonstrate strong business acumen and leadership skills. In order to be successful at this role time management, organizational, problem solving, negotiation and conflict-management skills are required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Timberline Estimating and Builder MT, Sales Simplicity and AutoCad/Powercadd is also required. BCIN qualifications would be an asset.

As an Estimator, you will use your diploma in Architectural Technologies, or equivalent, and your industry-related experience to support our Estimating team. You will be responsible for building base models and options within the database and other functions which may include preparation of material and labor take-offs, purchase order issuance, custom price requests, variance analysis, vendor pricing and assisting where required with paperwork and administration for tendering sub-trade contracts and other production-related functions.

You must have solid knowledge of residential construction processes, building materials, codes and technologies plus solid communication skills, initiative, attention to detail, time management skills, and organizational abilities. Working proficiency with construction/estimating software such as Sales Simplicity, Timberline and Builder MT is also preferred. BCIN qualifications will be an asset.
